Awesome, I have been wanting to try the Vibrams. I will have to follow your progress and see what happens. Why does your PT want you barefoot? what injuries will this prevent or help heal?

@Mickey - I think you're on to something. For me, my feet are "very neutral" which means that left to their own devices (no shoes or orthotics) my feet will operate in a very straight, well aligned, movement with very little pronation (twisting or rolling). This is probably because I have a very rigid foot. But I also have a very high arch. All of this adds up to a foot that looks like you want to give it arch support, but if the support is too rigid, then that rigidity works against the natural behavior of my foot and I get Platar Faciitis! I never had any issues with PF till I got orthotics, and now, if my shoes are not flexible enough, my PF flares up.

My PT's a strong barefoot advocate, and he'd loved your Pow Wow story. He feels strongly that shoes make us lose connection with our feet, and we start ignoring the information our feet our sending us, and that increases risks of slipping, falling, twisting, etc... not to mention the fact that we stop learning to use the muscles in our feet to hold us up in a proper stance while standing, walking, or running.

@Michelle, the great thing about the Vibrams is that they are a layer of protection for your skin, without changing you feets ability to talk to you and the ground.

Very good information! For what it is worth, I am not big fan of orthodics for runners. I think barefoot running is smart as long as you check your course for things that can damage your skin glass, rocks, etc...try a golf course early morning.

Wow that's wierd I've never seen those. I would probably be crippled if I tried them. You know what I've wondered about? I spend100+ dollars for a good pair of running shoes. Then I go to a Pow Wow with my Native American friends and watch them dance all day for three days in a pair of moccasins. Go figure? I never see them limping around with Plantar Faciitis.

Woo! Fantastic effort - more consistent than previous years too. Are you seeing the benefits in terms of speed & endurance?

It was grey and cloudy, and a little cool... but no rain. The beach was clear except for a couple kids playing in the sand. So I had 6 life guards making sure I didn't drown. Not a bad ratio.
