Race Wheels!

The internet is great. I met Gary through the internet, and Gary introduced me to Tyson, and I mentioned I was looking for some 650c race wheels… and it turns out Tyson has some he’s looking to find a good home for. So some twittering, and facebooking, and emailing goes down, and tonight, arrived in UPS a big box with race wheels in it!

Woo hoo!

Grand Columbian Ironman – I have arrived.

Grand Columbian Ironman – I have arrived.

Today we arrived in Electric City and checked into the Coulee Playland Resort. This is the swim start for the Grand Columbian Ironman, and so we have a front row seat for all the festivities. Since I don’t mind camping… and I can sleep anywhere I actually think this is the best possible way to prepare for this race. I guess if we had an RV it would be even more comfortable, but honestly I don’t need that.

My Dad came along for support, and since he’s Mr. Camping we have a great (big) four man tent, comfy camp chairs, a gas stove, and we even have an awesome drip coffee maker that works on a camp stove. True luxury!

Very Light Spinning

I was very sore today before and after my massage. I am convinced that any downtime is dangerous to me at this point. I took Monday off completely… and then Tuesday I ran early in the morning (was very sore) and then was very inactive all day. These two days of near inactivity have taken their toll.

I did get a massage today, and it seemed to help a little, but my IT Band, hamstring, and my Peroneus longus are all very tight. What’s a Peroneus longus? Its a muscle in the front/side of your lower leg that runs from your knee down to your ankle. Mine is tight enough that you can see the ridges of the tendon fibers in my leg just below my knee on the outside of my leg. Not good.

So tonight, I set up my cervelo on the “trainer” and set it to the lowest possible resistance, and spun for 35 minutes. The idea was: blood flow with no lactate acid… so I tried to keep my heart rate around 100.

After that I soaked in a hot bath… and now I’ll go do some more stick/roller self massage.

Tomorrow I think I’ll do some road riding… but keep it nice and light. The goal for the next 2 weeks is to NOT GET INJURED!

Summits of Bothell - One S.O.B. of a ride!

I’ll start by saying the Summits of Bothell is advertised as the S.O.B. and it is indeed that. When I read the description I thought… “Hah! that sounds like a lot of hype.” But I gotta tell you… this was one hell of a ride. The course designer knew what they were doing and made a point of adding hill after hill after hill. I’d give this ride a 9 out of 10 for climbing challenge.

My first flat tire with my new bike.

Well, it was going to happen some time… and so I’m glad it happened today and not on race day.

It’s actually kind of amazing that I haven’t had a flat yet on my fixie, which I rode for like 2500 miles since I bought it late last year, and in only about 150miles I’ve already got my first flat on my new triathlon bike. Read the rest of this entry »

Morning Ride - 54 miles on the new bike

I woke up this morning at 6am. Sure, that’s not that early… but lately I’ve been staying up really late and sleeping in… but this morning I had to get up and get out on my new bike. :)
