4 Hills and 40 Miles on a Fixie in Seattle
It was a beautiful day today in Seattle, so I took my fixed gear Shogun Kaze Funny Bike out for a ride on the Burke Gilman trail. I love this bike, it rides real nice, and it gets lots of comments. It’s one thing to be riding a fixed gear bike, but the fact that this thing is brightly colored, with aggressive angles and more importantly a tiny front wheel.. I get a lot of comments.
I took it relatively easy for the first 12 miles staying on the flats, but then at Kenmore I turned up toward Jaunita Hill and south toward Kirkland. I did an out and back to down town Kirkland, which gave me a chance to do 4 hill climbs of about 450 feet each. I rode hard up all the hills making a point of pushing myself to the limit. This explains the 173 Max heart rate.
It was a great day for riding. The sky was clear, the temperature was just right. I was able to clear my head and think big thoughts. I need to ride my bike more often!

Casual Recovery Ride with my Youngest
Today my eldest had a birthday party at the local roller rink, so while she was off with friends my youngest and I had some time kill. We also had a quick errand to run, so we decided to set up the casual cruiser/hybrid bike with the half bike and head down the Burke Gilman trail.
