Long Run - Blow Up!
Posted by Brad Hefta-Gaub under: Run.
I had a great start to this run. My plan, if you can call it that, was to run out as fast as I could. Shooting for my goal pace required to qualify for Boston. 3:15:00 is what I need to run, so that means 7:26/mile pace. I was shooting for sub 7:30… I ended up making it to mile 14 at that pace. But then I started blowing up really bad. By mile 16 my average was still 7:29, but I was running closer to 8:00/mile. Then I really slowed down and realized I was getting a blister (this time, similar to the one from the Quadzilla, but on my other foot).
Anyway, I think the key here is that even though from cardiovascular perspective I can handle it, my muscular or neuromuscular endurance aren’t there… not to mention my running stride is apparently different enough that it causes me blisters.
The solution: run more!
