Oh boy… 5,000 Mile Reality Check!
Posted by Brad Hefta-Gaub under: Fitness.
Let’s see… One of my crazy fitness goals for the year was to ride my bike 5,000 miles. That wouldn’t be such a hard goal if it weren’t for all the other goals I had, like running every day, and doing my first 50 mile ultra marathon, and completing an Ironman (done this weekend).
But, now it’s November 10th, I have 51 days left in the year, and I have ridden my bike 4,205 miles. That means I need to ride an additional 795 miles to reach my goal.
Let’s break that down… that’s 15.6 miles per day; or 113 miles per week.
Considering that it’s also the ugliest part of the year here in Seattle… this is going to be brutal.
I am not the kind of person to admit defeat on a goal like this… so I guess this means I’ll be riding my bike everywhere for the rest of the year, as well as looking for excuses to meet people out of the office… say, let’s meet across the lake at a coffee shop… where I can ride my bike.

That is going to be tough going! Rain, shine, ice, sleet, snow…you’ll have to weather a bit of everything, or really bang in the miles when it’s dry!
Good luck though!

I’ll stop complaining about the drizzle while I do my puny lunch runs. You can do it!
