Bike Commute with Gears and without a Suit

Posted by Brad Hefta-Gaub under: Cycle.

I had a meeting with a partner to work on a proposal for a potential customer. I am compelled to get there by bike… If Karl can do it, I certainly can… And unlike Karl, I’m ok showing up a little more casual to the meeting.

My casual bike commute clothes are:

  • my standard casual 3/4 knicker style pants
  • a long sleeve t-shirt
  • a nice wool sweater
  • a cotton cycling cap
  • smart wool socks
  • Shimano MTB style shoes, with recessed SPD cleats.
  • A REI cycling style rain jacket
This isn’t as classy as Karl’s outfit, but it’s perfectly acceptable attire for even a business meeting in Seattle. Especially when you consider that all attendees at the meeting are in the business of healthy living, fitness and environmental sustainability.
Because I was still sore, I rode my most practical (but admittedly least fun) bike… my hybrid. And, I took it nice and slow.
After my meeting I had to head to the mechanic to pick up my second car… which has broken down twice in the last two months, and in both cases, the failure was because “we don’t drive it enough”… I think the universe is trying to tell us something about that car!

About Brad

Me in 2002 - 200lbsThis is my fitness blog. Some people who knew me a long time ago may wonder, what the heck I'm doing writing a blog about fitness. Many of them wouldn't imagine that I'd have anything to do with fitness. You see, up until age 34, I treated my body very poorly. I sat around at home, at work, at play. I ate junk food and lots of it. And the result was what you'd expect 5'4" and 200 lbs with 36% body fat. (more...)
