Quick ride on the Cervelo

I had just enough time around lunch to head out for about an hour… I did a modified out and back riding on the streets with some hills and then back along the BG trail. I’m a little nervous that my knees were feeling a little weak and sore… especially considering I’ll be doing 204 miles on Saturday! Ugh!

I am not prepared for this double century, and I have a feeling it’s going to kick my tail!

Quick ride on the Cervelo

THIS Saturday? Eeek! Given that you might not be as ready as you were last year, are you thinking that maybe a sensible road bike might be the sensible option? Or a cargo bike? ;-)

Karl, haven’t you figured out by now that I have no sense at all?

Are you kidding me. A double century. That’s like 2 days on the tour. Good luck.

Double century on a fixed gear bike no less!

Yes, this is stupid… But I am crazy like this.

The one “somewhat more sane” thing I plan to do is to NOT USE a bike computer. This means I will have my HRM/watch and I will just ride. If I have a computer, I will more likely then not try to maintain some average pace of aroun 19-20mph… which is what I have ridden this in the last three years… but since I know I’m under-trained I plan to just ride and let my own body be a pure guide to how fast to go.

I think this will make it enjoyable and easier on my body.

My Dad and my Daughters are driving “support” for me… so every 30-40 miles I’ll have a chance to stop and refuel and rest. I am considering having a second bike with actual gears available on the car, so that I can “switch out” if I am totally hammered late in the ride.

Yeah - but I notice you’ve ignored every one of my jibes over the last few weeks about doing it on the cargo bike. You might not have any sense . . . but you’re obviously not [completely] stoopid!

Have your daughters & father post your progress to twitter via a cellphone’s SMS service - this sort of event deserves live coverage.

OMG! Brad this is AWESOME! Best of Luck to you!! And exactly what possessed you to do such a thing! lol 204 miles!!! WOW!!I agree with Karl in the above comment, it would be great for us all to hear how you are doing along the way!!Although I don’t quite know how that works. Just be careful, and I am glad to know your dad and daughters will be driving along for support!! You WILL DO GREAT!! :-)
