Mini-tri with Sis - Swim

My sister is training for her first triathlon. This is a BIG deal for her, and I am supporting her along the way. She is really doing some amazing stuff… and I know she’s working really hard at reaching a goal that she would have said was impossible only a few months ago.

This was the first time I’ve seen her swim, and really I think she’s a natural. She reminded me that in school she was on the swim team. It’s funny when I consider this because I think it highlights how out of touch I was with fitness as a kid. I remember my brother and sister doing gymnastics… I vaguely remember her doing swim team… and what was I doing? I guess homework and messing around with computers.

Anyway, I think she would do really well to study some TI techniques… but I was amazed with how effortlessly she floated in a perfectly horizontal position with no coaching, no kicking, just perfect and balanced. All I did was say, “float on your back”… and her form was perfect TI form. Anyway… we went over some basic TI stroke technique, but she just wanted to swim… Of course, like me, she’s very comfortable in the water… but after a few strokes I could see she was working too hard and getting tired. Hopefully I’ll be able to convince her to try some more TI drills, because I think that she would really enjoy long distance open water swimming if she got a chance to experience how effortless it can be when you use good technique.

After 2 laps of the swim are (300yards) we headed to our bikes for a ride.
