Run to the Store for Dinner Supplies

Brad. A few years ago, Gordo Byrn talked about using a “Kenyan Style” workout… which meant riding his bike to swim workouts, etc. Basically using commuting and other daily chores and activity to get in “workouts” that many hard core athletes wouldn’t call workouts at all.
I always look back to 2003 and ask myself, “why did I improve so much” that year. Consistency was a huge part, solid community to train with … but I also didn’t have a car that year. Which meant I rode 4 miles round trip to classes and then walked a mile or two to get groceries… it doesn’t sound like much, but compare that to hoping in the car everytime you need something.
It did two things for me: 1. I bought less crap (didn’t want to haul it) 2. I was always active our of necessity (and then still got to my workouts).
I wish I had the courage to get back to that place.

I think I had salmon that night…
I did the run commute again this sunday night, and bought ingredients to make dinner for my wife and me. The kids were staying at Grandma and Grandpas house… On Sunday I made us some Caprese Salad (tomato, basil, mozzarella) and Ravioli with Sliced Chicken Breast, and a mixed greens salad.

Thanks for stoppin by…I have actually registered for my first race-just a 5K-but you gotta start somewhere! It’s at the end of May and I’m really looking forward to it.
Your story is really inspirational…especially when you factor in kids, work, family. I’m trying to put myself closer to #1 on the list rather than at the end, like it has been for so long :o)
