Three Days Left Before Getting Serious!

Yep… I’ve decided… I have to kick myself back in shape. It’s time to start getting serious about training for this year’s Ironman, time to get serious about eating good healthy food, losing this extra weight that I’ve put on since last year’s Ironman, and frankly it’s time to start treating my body better.

So, I’m going to jot down a couple of not-yet-completely formed thoughts about my soon to be newly instated practices. Mostly just thoughts I’ve had about bad habits I want to stop, and good habits I know I can follow. In random order… as they come to me.

  • Stop eating so much food.
  • No more wine with dinner, margaritas with Mexican food, and Scotch while watching “Lost”
  • Eat small meals throughout the day… Tyler suggests moving to an eat small amounts once every hour. His theory is that this will increase metabolism as the body will stop storing excess calories, and pivot into “always burning mode”. This sounds like a credible theory, but I need to do some research on this. Could I pull off 100 cals every hour for my 16 waking hours a day?
  • Get to calorie deficit! Track calories in! Seriously! Dude! Stop messing around! You know you have to do this!
  • Balance macro-nutrients!
  • Cut out the cheese! Easier said then done, but man, what a difference this would make.
  • Get back to 7 days a week of workouts… you know you love how this makes you feel.
  • Ride your bike more… get back to riding every day… you know you love it.
  • You’re doing great with the 3x week strength sessions with Tyler, keep it up!
  • Find an open water swimming plan. You love open water. Find a way to swim in the open water 3x per week!
  • EAT FOOD! NOT TO MUCH! MOSTLY PLANTS!
  • Scuba Dive MORE! You’ve had so much fun diving this week… you miss it! Get back out there and play with the fishes! It will free your mind!
  • Get more SLEEP!
  • Go back to the PT and get your running gait fixed!
  • Do you IT Band PT Work! Do your other PT work!
  • Stretch MORE!
  • Keep doing Drizzit’s Killer Ab Workout! You like it!
  • Keep doing pull ups! You like it!
  • Ask Robin about Yoga.
  • Consider Pilates with Adrien.
  • Ride with Dad!
  • Ride with Sis!

Now, I realize that this list may seem unrealistic… and it doesn’t follow the classic SMART goals… but it’s not intended to be that… yet… right now it’s just a bunch of thoughts… let’s call them wishes…

I still need to boil them down into a plan.

It’s so funny that you posted this. I’ve been meaning to write you and find out what your next training goal would be. I miss your play-by-play workout posts.
So besides getting back on the bandwagon to a healthier lifestyle it sounds like there’s an Ironman in your near future. Fantastic!

See, this is what I need. In my circle of family, friends, co-workers, I am the fittest (which is not saying as much as you’d think). I am more interested in working out and training than those around me.

So I need this community of inspirational, motivated goal oriented people who are as passionate about your goals and dreams as I am! I’ll be following your blog!

Hey BHG-!
I agree with adding the massage therapist. I know one who is brilliant. Definitely worth a drive to Kirkland….. Anelody Tice at the Anderson Naturopathic Clinic on Market. Go see her. :)

Wishes?

Scotch while watching Lost. That’s a wish!

Actually, yeah, wine w/dinner. That’s one that I find hard to get rid of.

What a great start! Maybe instead of New Year’s Resolutions, we should adopt “Mid-February Re-Focus”! :-)

Oh yes… regular massages should be on the list as well. My shoulder is killing me… and my IT band and hammys are sooooo tight….

I also thought of another addition… I want to find a swim coach, someone who is a TI expert… to help me improve my TI technique.

Dave: Scotch while watching “Lost” or any TV show, has become my latest bad habit this winter. Not that I drink alot… because we haven’t watched that much TV, what with the writers strike… but lately I’ve taken to having a short pour of scotch and a snuggle into the leather couch with my wife and flip on the TV… it’s a habit I have to break.

Good news is, today is our last full day in Puerto Vallarta, and I successfully avoided buying the oooh sooo tastey bottle of single barrel 10 year aged tequilla. This stuff was sooooo gooooood at the tasting room…. but also expensive…. and I know I would have been drinking it almost every night if I had it at home. So… I just didn’t buy…. I guess I’ll have to wait for my next trip to Jalisco, Mexico to get Tequilla this good.

Me in 2002 - 200lbsThis is my fitness blog. Some people who knew me a long time ago may wonder, what the heck I'm doing writing a blog about fitness. Many of them wouldn't imagine that I'd have anything to do with fitness. You see, up until age 34, I treated my body very poorly. I sat around at home, at work, at play. I ate junk food and lots of it. And the result was what you'd expect 5'4" and 200 lbs with 36% body fat. (more...)
