Puerto Vallarta Spin Class
Took a spin class at the hotel this morning. It felt good, but I am definitely out of shape. The hotel we’re staying at has a pretty nice spa and work out facility. The spin class instructor is apparently on the local Pro-Soccer team, and spends his off season as a personal trainer at the hotel.
The class was small 5 students, but had good equipment, Greg LeMond Spinning Bikes. My fellow students included a Dad and his two teenage daughters from New York and a retired woman from Boston. This was their first spin class. One thing I like about spin classes is that each person can get a good workout for themselves… the student is in control of the effort level no matter what instructions the teacher gives.
I happened to be wearing my finisher shirt from my first Ironman, and as a result, I became the topic of conversation. It’s amazing to me, how much of an aura the Ironman seems to hold. Yes, it’s a long race, and it’s something that takes a lot of training and effort to achieve, but I firmly believe that it is something that anyone can complete if they put their mind to it and work toward it. To have a local professional soccer player say he’s impressed with me, blows my mind a little. I’m not an elite athlete by any stretch… I’m just a guy who won’t quit!

I respect you so much for finishing a full Ironman. I know that is something I would never be able to do. I would drown to begin with. If I made it out of the water, I would then wreck my bike. If some how I made it through the bike, there is no way I would have the energy to run a full marathon. What you do is amazing. You are a stud.

Thanks Kip, it’s nice to hear you say that… I of course am blown away by the speed which you seem to run… and the fact that you run that speed effortlessly (or it would seem) at distance.
So I guess the point is that there are lots of ways to push the limits of fitness, and everyone should find their own way to do so.
Thanks for the encouragement.
