Active Recovery - Easy Spin on Fixie

My legs are pretty sore after my Marathon yesterday. Of course, that is to be expected, especially when you consider that I sat around on an airplane for 3 hours to get home from Vegas. The best thing I could do today for recovery was to do some very light spinning on my indoor trainer. The very best bike I could use for this, would be my new wicked cool fixie. I will write a more detailed race report after I get some sleep. The headline is that I set a new Marathon PR by almost 30 minutes. But I blew up at about mile 11, and realized my goal of a Boston Qualifying time was not to be this time. Read the rest of this entry »

Import Pre-Race Day Tip: Plan your Food

This is particularly important for races that start at a hotel. The Las Vegas Marathon (and Half Marathon) is just one such race. Anyway… make sure you figure out a plan for your food in the morning. I just called Room service to set up beakfast in the morning… First available time? 2:30 am… Ouch… Ok, I guess it will give me a chance to eat, go back to sleep, and digest a little.

Me in 2002 - 200lbsThis is my fitness blog. Some people who knew me a long time ago may wonder, what the heck I'm doing writing a blog about fitness. Many of them wouldn't imagine that I'd have anything to do with fitness. You see, up until age 34, I treated my body very poorly. I sat around at home, at work, at play. I ate junk food and lots of it. And the result was what you'd expect 5'4" and 200 lbs with 36% body fat. (more...)
