More Amazing Fixed Gear Tricks

Here’s another amazing example of a style of bicycle riding called Artistic Cycling. More of an acrobatic/gymnastic display than even bicycle riding, the leaders in this sport are able to balance themselves on bicycles in truly amazing ways.

I get the impression, that much like figure skating, this sport which first became popular in the late 19th century, was originally governed by a series of rigorous rules and regulations, and has since been kept alive by artists who are pushing the boundaries of the man/machine connection.

Yes these are fixed gear bikes. But if you look closely you’ll see that the gearing ratio is very “small”, namely that the pedal strokes are almost 1:1 in wheel rotation. This gives the rider precise control of wheel position. Although from the video it appears as if this particular rider rarely pedals at all.

Amazing stuff.
