Morning Ride - 54 miles on the new bike
I woke up this morning at 6am. Sure, that’s not that early… but lately I’ve been staying up really late and sleeping in… but this morning I had to get up and get out on my new bike.

First ride on my new tri bike…

I haven’t quite got the bike dialed in… fortunately I have more than 3 weeks before my race. Even though I rode this exact bike last week as a test ride, today we can say this was the first ride on the bike as me being the owner… although I didn’t actually pay for the bike till after the ride when I went back to the shop to have them adjust the fit a little.

The Case For/Against Rest
Last week was a very slow week for me training wise. I did a long 26.2 mile run 8 days ago, and was pretty sore afterwards. I actually had 4 days last week where I essentially did no Swim/Bike/Run activity. I did some stretching and got a massage, but basically, was pretty inactive.
Rest week, right? Recovery? A good thing… right? Well, I’ve been getting more and more sore and stiff all week long. My knee tracking problem seemed to be coming back even just walking around the house. My Plantar Fasciitis was acting up… I was almost feeling a little sorry for myself.
But today was the start of a new week. Exactly 4 weeks left before my Ironman. My plan was to have 2 weeks of mid/heavy training, then 1 week of mid/light training starting my taper, then a week of very light training before the race. So today, I wanted to get back on the horse and do a nice “serious effort” mid distance run…. How would the week off effect me?

Rolling out my IT band
I am feeling sore in my knee and hip… The only real fitness activity I did was 45 minutes of stretching and rolling.

Garmin Edge #3
Well, as you might recall I’ve complained about my Garmin Edge freaking out on me… forcing me to use my Forerunner as a bike computer. I am happy to report that Garmin decided (with out any complaining on my part) to completely replace my Edge at NO COST to me.
Today I did a quick little out and back on the Burke Gilman trail with my new… third times a charm… Garmin Edge. It’s nice to have the bike computer back… with a real altimeter, and a bigger screen. The only problem with the ride was… It wasn’t nearly as fun riding my old jalopy of a bike after riding that sweet Cervelo. I think I need to call the shop tomorrow and put in my order!

People search for the strangest things…
Someone found my blog searching for “Felix Leadfingers”… my old nick name in high school… I wonder if it was one of my long lost buddies? The world may never know.
I just searched for this phrase and I came up with my blog, and some comments about Advanced Dungeons & Dragons in a debate about whether or not the game is demonic on the Christian listserv for the University of Buffalo dated February 1994. For what it’s worth, although I sort of agree with what that guy said… it wasn’t me that said it. Kinda odd that there are two Felix Leadfingers in the world… it seems to me like an odd enough made up name that you wouldn’t expect it to be picked twice.
Now, when I had the name Felix Leadfingers, one guy in my crew was named “Beef”… but he didn’t like that nick name. So we agreed to change it to “MR RAX”… which was actually an acronym for Muhammad Rahul Ralf Alfonso Xavier. He much preferred his new nom de guerre.

7 Mile - Tempo Run?
Did a 7 Mile “tempo” run today. Well, sort of… I didn’t really plan to do a tempo run, or intervals, or easy, I couldn’t really decide what I was going to run. I ended up running pretty hard for the first two miles completing them in 14:07, then I slowed down, then I sped up… what was I doing?

Test Ride - Active Recovery
Ok, so I’ve been pretty sore the last couple days after my 26.2 mile training run. I bet Bill is feeling a little smug after telling me how he feels like his long runs impact his training for several days following a long run. I don’t think I was ever being a braggart, but I was willing to profess that I hadn’t yet been hit by “junk in the legs” after a long run.
But hell, 26.2 miles… that’s a LOOOONG run. And so Monday and Tuesday I was limping around like an old man with old broken down legs. Since the run, I’ve taken two days off. Today I needed to get out and do some active recovery. So I decided to head down to my local triathlon store and test ride some fancy bikes! Sounds like fun doesn’t it? Read the rest of this entry »

My Third “Marathon” - a new PR sort of
Well, I did it… I ran 26.2 miles for the third time in my life. This makes running 25 or more miles four times in my life. What? You didn’t know I had a race this weekend? Well, I didn’t… but as part of my “train like you race” philosophy, I decided it was time to take on a full 26.2 mile training run. Here’s how it turned out…
