Cycling or Strength Training - Pulling two kids on a fixie
Posted by Brad Hefta-Gaub under: Cycle.
I’ve gone fixie crazy again… I put my road bike up on the ceiling hangers… the girls wanted to go for a “bike train” ride… that means me pulling the half bike pulling the trailer.
This seemed like a good idea… and it probably was a much better idea last summer, which was the last time I did this with both of them. But a year later, and they’ve both grown… and well… uh… this was hard work. Especially on the fixie.
But we went to Mathews Beach Park (about 7 miles from our home), Saffron pedaled the half bike on the way there and Zola on the way home. We averaged 11.1mph, which was slower than I had expected, and the result was that I was late for my Physical Therapy appointment. Well, also since I had to drive I totally misjudged traffic, and so that also made me late.
The point is, it was actually much more of a strength training session then a cycling session… basically 70 cadence * 75 minutes = 5250 lunges! Yowza!
