Hazy Hazing Ride
This morning I finally went for my first serious morning ride with Ray’s crew friends: Trevor, Bill, Jeff and Jim. I think that they decided that since my last ride with them was on a fixie, that today they would put me through some insane hazing ritual.
I guess another thing I learned this morning, is that I need to ride with these guys (or other more advanced cyclists) more often. They basically put the hammer down from the second we rolled out of the house and didn’t let up for 35 miles later. They picked a rather hilly, windy course, and basically went all out.
The fact that I’m still fighting a cold (probably doesn’t help that I refuse to slow down my training) didn’t help. That being said, I was able to hang (mostly) with Trevor and Bill who were pushing the most aggressive pace (25+ mph), even when they blew the J’s away with a 22mph pace up a 5% half mile grade.
This was certainly one of the best workouts I’ve had in a long time.
I think these guys plan to ride a one day STP… if so, I definitley want to convince them that I should come along… we’d surely blow away last years time.
What about Ray? Well, apparently Ray took a spill a couple weeks ago and broke his collar bone in 4 places. Looks like he won’t be riding STP. Maybe next year.
