Y-Guides Winter Camp!

Igloo - Not built by us...Here’s a quick update from Lake Wenatchee… first of all, uh, what? posting on your blog from camp? Shouldn’t you be playing in the snow… how are you connected to the Internet?

Well, the girls are having fun playing cards and games in the lodge…. there are some Y-Guides boy groups… what are they up to? Uh… it’s like the Lord of the Flies out there. Good times!

Anyway, while girls are playing cards and “playmobile” and having giggle wars, a couple of Dads are hanging out chatting (and in my case kinda working/playing/blogging)… Dads aren’t welcome playing “playmobile” anyway…  How am I on the Internet? T-Mobile, GPRS, connecting my laptop through my blackberry pearl… ah… this is the life. ;)
There is another group of dads who are taking on the challenge of building an igloo… Me, being the consummate competitor/crazy man, have challenged them… if they build this igloo, I will sleep in it tonight. Seeing how we only had 8 bunks for 10 of us, and I slept on a hard concrete floor last night, I think the igloo with an actual ground floor could be an upgrade. Did I say concrete floor? Yeah, well, they call it camping, but it’s actually cabins with a wood burning stove… so it’s not like we’re really roughing it.

After lunch we go sledding! Yippeeeeeeeeee!

An update… They did it!
And honestly it’s impressive! Now to convince Saffron to sleep in an igloo!

Ok, we got some pictures of the igloo, transfering them to the PC and blog is complicated without a USB cable or card reader… How can I call myself a blogger if I’m not prepared to send pictures and videos from the field!?!?! I figured out how to email the photos from my phone to flickr and then post them to the blog from there… but the process is time consuming.

Well, I couldn’t convince Saffron to sleep in the igloo, but that’s ok, our circle scored major points here at camp by being the group that “built the igloo”… really, the picture above from wikipedia is chump compared to the igloo we (they) built.

Here is the fist photo of the igloo….

Totally and utterly cool. I had this niggling doubt in my head about a camping trip in February - camping should involve summer and running down to the lake for your morning swim, and catching fish for breakfast and . . . everything else from Swallows and Amazons.

But this shows that winter can be fun too !
